Papa J, turned 86 years young on June 6th. Our family surprised him and we all came home for a fun weekend of just being with family. We started out by having supper at the cafe that my Dad did a great job of putting together. He made us a buffett of prime rib, bbq ribs, broasted chicken, breaded shrimp, hasbrown casserole, mac n cheese, onion rings, and chicken nuggetts! There were 23 of us out of the 38 family members that were able to be there. So, Papa J thought this was the big deal, but what he didn't know was the real surprise was on Saturday. Some of his grandchildren that said couldn't be there, came down on Saturday morning. He thought he was going golfing with Denny, Nancy, Steve, and Ryan on Saturday morning, but we were all out at the golf course waiting for him on the #1 tee box. We purchased a granite bench that now is set on the #1 tee box on Sanborn's golf course, that says "If you are golfing with family member today, cherish the experience. In Honor of MD Jay Jaycox.
He got his cart out as usual and went inside and paid for the others that were golfing with him and we were all out by the bench. He said, man there are quite a few people on #1, do we need to wait to tee off, and the guy at the course said "No, they won't bother you, just go ahead and go tee off!" So he drove down and didn't realize it was us until he pulled closer and saw all of us with our cameras and then we showed him the bench and he was speechless. The tears came and then we were all crying because we knew how much this meant to him. We made that saying come true. We all golfed with him that day. Even the babies, everyone either putt, or hit one shot and he got to golf with his entire family on Saturday. We then went and had a picnic in the park and the kids had fun playing in the park, ad then finished the day off at the pool. It was pretty chilly out but the kids loved it. Madison got cold after a while, and got her towel and took it into the shallow end of the baby pool and sat down in the water with the towel on her legs! It was hilarious. I will post quite a few pics from the weekend, there are so many it is hard to choose.
